What Counts as Ragging

In line with UGC's anti-ragging regulations, any of the following acts — done to a fresher or any student, on or off campus — is treated as ragging:

Teasing, abusing or playing practical jokes that cause embarrassment or distress.

Any act of physical or verbal abuse, or forcing a student to do something they would not normally do.

Asking a student to do menial or unreasonable tasks not asked of other students.

Harassment, including online or social-media based, that affects a student's academic or mental wellbeing.

Any act that causes psychological harm, fear, shame or humiliation to a student.

Financial extortion or forcing a student to spend money against their wish.

Ragging is a criminal offence under Indian law and UGC regulations; it may lead to suspension, expulsion, and legal action against those found responsible.
