About the Department

Swami Vivekanand Mahavidyalaya, Latur

The National Service Scheme guides college youth from character-building toward all-round growth, serving as a compass for knowledge alongside character development, self-reliance, and national integration. Our college runs the National Service Scheme with the aim of nurturing the dignity of labour, patriotism, cooperation, and honesty among students, and channelling that energy into constructive nation-building work.

Affiliated with Swami Ramanand Teerth Marathwada University, Nanded; run by Jaykranti Shikshan Prasarak Mandal, Latur.

Guidance

The department operates under the guidance of Principal Dr. Nilesh Paul and the leadership of Programme Officer Prof. Rohan Deshmukh.

Scope of Work

Birth/death anniversary observances, tree plantation, shramdaan (voluntary labour), awareness campaigns, and a special residential camp in an adopted village.

Aims

Objectives of the National Service Scheme

Instil a sense of national integration and social commitment among youth.

Build a disposition to live among and serve people while working alongside them.

Put students' knowledge to use in solving social problems.

Prepare students to respond wholeheartedly to disasters and natural calamities.

Foster self-reliance, character development, and confidence among students.

Cultivate the dignity of labour, honesty, and a cooperative spirit among students.

"Youth's Resolve — Village-to-City Development" Special Residential Camp

A seven-day special youth camp was held at Mouje Kawha, Taluka & District Latur (about 10 km from the college). 15 male and 10 female students (25 volunteers in total) took part, each completing 120 hours of service.

Arrival & Inauguration

Morning procession, cleaning of the residence, group formation; inaugurated by JSPM Education Director Shri Sambhajirao Patil.

Legal Awareness

Advocate Shriram Bhalerao guided volunteers on legal rights and responsibilities.

Shramdaan & Voter Awareness

Construction of soak pits in the village; a session on new-voter awareness led by Prof. Vikas Waghmare.

Area Cleanliness & Amrit Kaal

Cleanliness drive across the village and school premises; lecture on "Amrit Kaal of Independence" by Prof. Dr. Kiran Otle.

Shramdaan & Women's Empowerment

A shramdaan session followed by guidance on "Women's Empowerment" by Prof. Suvarna Chavan.

Eradicating Superstition & Cultural Evening

Lecture on "Society and Superstition"; a solo drama performance and powada in the evening.

Valedictory Function

Principal Dr. Nilesh Paul presided; a review of the seven days and distribution of certificates.

Outcomes of the Camp

  • Volunteers developed a sense of national integration and social commitment.
  • Built readiness to respond during natural disasters, along with self-reliance.
  • Gained practice in studying villagers' social problems and suggesting solutions.
  • Picked up life skills such as cooking, planning, stage courage, and self-confidence.
  • Conducted social awareness on de-addiction, dowry prohibition, prevention of child marriage, and water conservation.
Total camp expenditure was ₹25,550/- (meals ₹17,050, travel ₹3,000, guest honorarium ₹2,500, other expenses ₹2,700, etc.)
